Connecting Through Pain: How Honest Words Build Your Business

Starting a business can be one of the most exciting things you could ever do.

Think about it: it’s your idea on display for all the world to see. No one can do what you do like you do it.

That’s a fact.

I have been to a few new business workshops over the years and time and again, you are told that what the market really needs is a good, solid product, be it something physical or a service.

Agreed. That’s a no-brainer.

What you also need for your business are the right words to tell people about what you do.

If your words speak to your audience or viewers in a way that they resonate with, you are on your way to developing prospects who can become customers.

If your words don’t speak or resonate with whomever is viewing your posts or content, they will scroll right on by.

So how do you speak to people in a way that they will stop to read your posts?

1. Think back to what made you start your business: what problem did you have that made you look for the solution that has become your business?

How many people are looking for that same solution?

2. Talk about your and their pain or frustration in clear, unflinching terms.

For example, people who are needing to lose weight can experience any number of frustrations.

Some of those can be:

  • The belief they will not be attractive unless they are at a certain weight
  • Avoiding looking at themselves in the mirror
  • Dreading shopping for clothes because they feel uncomfortable in their own skin

This is where you can really connect with people; they can read that you know what it feels like to be where they are and what made you get moving and find the answer to your problem.

When people, like you, get on the internet to find a solution for their problem, what they are going to look for are terms that relate to their pain in their own words.

“Why don’t I ever get to shop for clothes in smaller sizes? No matter what I do, this never seems to change for me.”

This is where people can start to feel like they know something about you and people like to hear from folks they can relate to.

That’s what keeps people reading your posts and coming back to them.

That’s power you can leverage to build your business: being honest and relatable about the problem you solve and then, making sure people know you have what can help them to solve that problem and remove that pain.
